Prologue:

It was an almost eerie silent night in the forest. The bushes rustled as a reddish-brown tabby with yellow eyes poked his head out slightly. "Flameflight! Not yet, get your head back down!" hissed a silver-gray fairly longhaired she-cat with light blue eyes. "Sorry Moonstrike, I was trying to see if there were any NightClan warriors" apologized Flamestrike. Moonstrike looked back to see if any other of the StormClan warriors had moved. They were all silent. Moonstrike looked around, it was weird, and they were at NightClan camp, but no sign of any NightClan warriors.
A loud threatening hiss broke the silence as a tall, brown cat with black spots leapt out of the bushes. "Its Darkfoot!" shouted Moonstrike as she leapt out of the way. Darkfoot landed on his feet, turning around, spitting and hissing as he leapt at Moonstrike again. Soon the air was no longer silent, NightClan cats ran out of the bushes as the StormClan cats gathered themselves together to attack.
Suddenly, on top of a tall rock that stood in the middle of the NightClan camp, a large, muscular, black bulky cat with unusually large eyes and long claws stood there, the moonlight shining through his fur. Moonstrike hissed, it was Nightstar, the NightClan leader, known for his treacherous plans, and his evil desires. At the corner of her eyes, Moonstrike saw a flash of reddish-brown fur shoot out towards where Nightstar was standing. Moonstrike's eyes widened, it was Flameflight.
Flameflight bounded up the rock, his claws unsheathed; ready to rip at Nightstar's fur. Nightstar leapt forward and knocked Flameflight hard onto the ground, knocking him unconscious. Hissing, Nightstar lifted his paw, ready to strike a fatal blow at Flameflight, who was still laying there, starting to move slightly. Moonstrike ran forward to save him, but almost instantly, Darkfoot pinned her down. Moonstrike scratched and struggled to reach Flameflight.
Nightstar slammed his paws and ripped Flameflight's chest open. Letting out a choking gasp, Flameflight twitched then slumped to the ground, not moving anymore. "No, Flameflight!" screamed Moonstrike. With a burst of new energy, she gave Darkfoot a good bashing and sent him screaming into the forest. Moonstrike leapt onto her paws and darted at Nightstar, who had disappeared into the bushes.
Angrily, Moonstrike looked around, as she heard a yowl. A reddish-gold young she-cat was pinned underneath a gray she-cat. Moonstrike instantly recognized Maplefur from underneath Sorrowtears, one of NightClan's queens.
Moonstrike ran over and gave her a good bashing too, which also sent her running. Moonstrike nudged at Maplefur to get her up. One of Maplefur's ears was bleeding badly. Moonstrike looked around, they couldn't beat them, despite their large amount of warriors, NightClan were as crafty as a fox and had unusual fighting skills and they had fewer warriors then they had. "StormClan retreat!" shouted Moonstrike.
Quickly, all the StormClan cats retreated. Carefully, Moonstrike picked up Flameflight's lifeless body and ran back to the safety of her camp, hearing Nightstar's triumphant yowl far behind her.

A pretty young light golden she-cat with blue eyes with a tortoiseshell she-cat were sitting together. They watched the sleeping figures of wounded cats sleeping in their dens. "How are they Dappleflight? Will they heal in time?" asked the pretty young light golden she-cat with blue eyes. "Don't worry Lightstar, they will heal" the tortoiseshell she-cat replied, reassuring Lightstar. "I am worried by the defeat, I wonder how soon will we get new warriors? And when will they learn about Nightstar's treachery? It is already bad enough that he had killed Sorrelclaw without anyone knowing, and now Flameflight. Even his clan doesn't know of the truth, and they won't believe us during the gatherings. Who will be able to make them all believe?"
Dappleflight blinked, looking calmly at Lightstar. "I was waiting for you to ask that. I have received a message from MoonClan," replied Dappleflight. Lightstar turned to look at Dappleflight, "What have they told you?" asked Lightstar. "I saw a picture of a single rose growing in a glade" replied Dappleflight. Lightstar studied Dappleflight for a few minutes before replying, "If that is what you say, then I hope it will come true".
Lightstar stood up and said, "I have to appoint a new mentor for Pantherpaw"
Lightstar walked up to the Tallrock and called on everyone, who almost instantly woke up and walked over. "Now you all know that Flameflight has died by Nightstar, and his apprentice, Pantherpaw needs a new mentor, I will now appoint one" announced Lightstar as all the cats looked up with interest.
"I call upon my warrior ancestors to give this apprentice a new mentor. Pantherpaw, you have lost your first mentor, so your new mentor will be Moonstrike" announced Lightstar. Pantherpaw and Moonstrike touched noses as the other cats cheered. Lightstar looked around, still thinking about the message that was sent by MoonClan.
