Chapter 1
It was early in the morning. Rosepaw leapt quickly out of the Apprentice's den, there was no way she was going to stay in and do training on such a beautiful morning. Carefully, she made her way down to the glades, a grassy spot located in the forest clearing in her Clan's territory, it was her favorite spot to go to. She sat down in the middle of the glades, wondering why does she still need to train if she is as good an apprentice as Dawnpool says.
Rosepaw sniffed the air; the scent of rabbit reached her nose. Looking excited, Rosepaw crouched down and crept forward. She saw the rabbit a few taillengths in front of her. She crept forward when suddenly; something fairly large and white shot out at the rabbit and missed as the rabbit disappeared. "Hey Angelpaw! I was hunting that!" shouted Rosepaw. The white she-cat with light golden spots sat up and licked her paws. "Oh, I'm sorry, I hadn't spotted you" apologized Angelpaw.
"What are you doing in StormClan territory anyways?" asked Rosepaw. "Oh, hunting" replied Angelpaw. "You're not supposed to hunt in other clan territories," Rosepaw pointed out. "Oh, I know, but aren't SunClan and StormClan like allies or something? And besides, I hadn't even caught that rabbit so I hadn't exactly stolen anything, if that is what you meant" Angelpaw replied calmly. "Fine then, so why are you here anyway? Your territory has enough rabbits to hunt, why here?" asked Rosepaw. "I knew you'd be sneaking out here again. Besides, it was in this glades we had met when we just left the nursery, so it's a good spot" said Angelpaw.
Rosepaw looked around the glades, everything was so green and beautiful, the air fresh, and she had to agree that it was a good spot. "Yeah, it is a good spot, it is great that we had met here" said Rosepaw. "And don't forget, you also met me here too" said a voice.
Rosepaw and Angelpaw turned around to see Silentpaw, a light gray tabby she-cat with a very smooth, silent walk appear out of the bushes. "Hey, I hadn't heard you, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be back with NightClan to finish your training to be a Medicine Cat?' asked Rosepaw. "Yeah, impressive isn't it? That is why I am not called Silentpaw for nothing; I can practically sneak up on anyone. And no, I don't mind, I like being a medicine cat's apprentice, but lets just say I'm tired today, so I snuck out because I knew you guys were going to be here. Or rather Rosepaw, because she always come to the glades in the early mornings" replied Silentpaw.
"So, why are you tired?" asked Angelpaw. "Oh, naming the uses of herbs and sorting them all the time gets tiring, I'm already very good at it anyways, I don't see the point of having to keep going through it over and over again" replied Silentpaw. "Yeah, I know what you mean, I'm a good apprentice, I don't see why I have to go through everything and all that." added Rosepaw.
"If you guys say you're so good, you would have heard me or even smelled me coming minutes ago," giggled a voice. They all turned to see Applepaw, a small, pretty, red and white she-cat with light green eyes sitting calmly near them, her eyes flashing happily with a bit of humor in them. "We were busy, so we hadn't heard you coming" said Rosepaw. "Yeah, you were so engrossed in your talk about how good you are that you hadn't heard me. I bet that if you kept talking like this, you might have missed a whole clan of cats passing you!" laughed Applepaw. Angelpaw gave a purr of amusement. "So, what is a LeafClan cat doing here?" asked Silentpaw. "Same reasons as you guys I suppose" replied Applepaw. Rosepaw looked around. Well, I guess there is no one else around," said Rosepaw. "Dawnpool says I'm almost ready to be an apprentice soon, isn't that cool" Rosepaw said happily. "Yeah, that is great, same for many of us too" said Silentpaw. Angelpaw flicked her ears and grew silent. "Hush everyone, I hear something" warned Angelpaw. Silentpaw sniffed the air; suddenly she grew stiff because she smelled cats from her clan.
"Nice, so I suppose your apprentices do know something" spoke a cold voice. Rosepaw looked into the bushes as a large dark figure came walking out. It was Batpaw. Silentpaw flinched, wondering, out of all apprentices, why did it have to be her? "Hello Batpaw" greeted Angelpaw. Quickly, Batpaw sat down and curled her tail around her. Rosepaw flinched at the sight of Batpaw's fangs. Suddenly another cat walked into view, it was Batpaw's sister, Bloodpaw. Rosepaw relaxed slightly, surely with Bloodpaw around Batpaw won't dare to do anything.
"You are not supposed to be out here Silentpaw, my father would not approve of it," said Batpaw, her voice hard and cold. "Then why are you out here then?" replied Silentpaw. Nearby, Applepaw hid behind Rosepaw who stood protectively in front of her. "Very well countered, but of course, I cannot have anyone else leaving the clan at such an early morning, it would look suspicious
" chuckled Batpaw, suddenly turning to look at Rosepaw before adding "
very suspicious indeed".
"Since when did you make the rules? You are not a leader," Silentpaw pointed out. Rosepaw flinched slightly at Silentpaw's boldness. "Correct I am not, but one day, I will be leader, just you wait. But in the meantime, I am older than you, I was first made apprentice, along with my sister Bloodpaw, and you came in later. So that makes me the eldest of the apprentices" Batpaw replied frostily. Silentpaw nodded slightly. "But you have no reason to get huffed up, we know you despise your father as much as we do. And that is what is in common in this group" said Silentpaw. Rosepaw held her breath, wondering how will Batpaw reply.
"Well, I suppose that is true, I can let this go for once," replied Batpaw. Rosepaw finally relaxed. "So is it really true that you two are Nightstar's father?" asked Applepaw. Batpaw turned to look at her for a few minutes then replied, "You are Applepaw of LeafClan, aren't you? Training to be a Medicine Cat like Silentpaw here" replied Batpaw. Applepaw nodded. "Well, you're young, so I guess it won't hurt to tell. Yes, we are both Nightstar's kits. Nightjewel was our mother, a beautiful fine gray queen with emerald colored eyes and red patches
until our father killed her!" spat Batpaw.
"I did not know of this, but how much do you know?" asked Rosepaw. "I've seen some, heard some and know a lot," replied Batpaw. "Then how come you won't expose your father? The rest of the clans should know!" suggested Angelpaw. "You apprentices don't seem to know much. My father, he is the trickiest one, knows how to hide things. And you can go around telling everyone what he did and he can deny it with the most perfected excuses that seem to work all time, and then he'd kill you for saying that and still get away with it with everyone believing him. So it is not easy to do so!" hissed Batpaw.
"Then what can we do? Everyone has to know of Nightstar's treachery," said Angelpaw. "We would need to find a good time to do so. We can't accuse him without proof, even if we know it was true. And even if we had proof, no one will think it is he, he cleans himself on every slaughter, and he cleans the victim, making it hard to tell. We need to catch him on the act, it is hard, but perhaps it will work, you speak wisely young apprentice" replied Batpaw, her eyes glinting with excitement. "Your good" complimented Silentpaw. Holding up her head, Batpaw replied, "Of course I am. I am the best; I have my father's brains, which comes into good use. I also have his strength. I could stop him myself if I wanted to too".
"Anyways, we could meet here again tomorrow, or when we have all became warriors, but judging you four, it won't take long. We will meet again soon. Come on Silentpaw!" called Batpaw as she turned and left with Silentpaw. Bloodpaw turned to start walking, and she suddenly turned back to face Rosepaw. "What is it? You have been very quiet," asked Rosepaw. "I am more like my mother, I have her sweetness and softness, and I have her red patches on my paws. But my fur is black like my father's and I have his eyes" replied Bloodpaw. "And why are you telling me this?" asked Rosepaw.
With fear appearing in her eyes, Bloodpaw replied, "You should know this because, my sister, Batpaw, she is everything like her father even though she tries to deny it. She has nearly all of her father's look, her father's personality and strength, her father's evilness and trickiness. And especially, she has her father's full skill and capability of mercilessly slaughtering others without getting caught"
With that, Bloodpaw quickly turned and ran off as a cold shiver ran down Rosepaw's spine.
